Purpose:
Understand key differences and closeness with Japan - and discuss how to do diverse teamwork between the two countries - mixing the best of both.
Recommended Participants:
Canadian and Japanese business people who work with or love each other's countries. Other nationalities interested in learning more about Canada, with a focus on Western Canada.
Learning Objectives:
Identify key cultural similarities and differences between Canada and Japan to enhance mutual understanding and collaboration in diverse teams.Explore the role of respect, openness, curiosity, and humor in building trust and improving teamwork across cultural boundaries.Gain practical tips for navigating cultural challenges in Canadian-Japanese business relationships and multicultural work environments.Reflect on personal cultural assumptions and biases to become more adaptable and empathetic in international collaborations.
Language Requirements: The workshop will be conducted in English, as it serves as a neutral and common language between Canadian and Japanese participants, and accommodates other international attendees. Guest Speakers:
Asa Nakano runs ADRIA INTERNATIONAL which is a trade company that mainly imports Italian wine. She is Japanese and works with the Canadian market.
Doug Strable grew up in Victoria, BC, and now lives and works between Canada and Japan as an EdTech and technology consultant. He is also a Broadcast System Designer.
Toshi Abe is a Production Control Specialist for a US company in Japan. He previously lived in Vancouver, Canada for several years.
Mickey Levin grew up in California, U.S.A. and is also Japanese. He is a university professor in Japanese studies in France.

- Introduction : 10 – 15 minutes- Keynote speakers : Asa Nakano, Doug Strable, Toshi Abe and Mickey Levin with a Q&A : 30 – 40 minutes
